of the milkshake murder -- sull'omicidio del frullato

So a few days ago, I was told by another expat wife that my post about resentment was spot on. Of course it was. Once you have been an expat for some time, you know that the expat wives' resentment is so intense that if used as fuel, it could make all power stations in the world redundant.

Not everybody is familiar with the case of the Milkshake Murder but it is something that rang a bell among the expat community, especially among the expat husbands who since then have stopped drinking anything from Starbucks which isn't handed to them directly by the barista.

In the Milkshake Murder case, an exasperated expat wife in Hong Kong, drugged her expat husband with a sedative-laced milkshake and then bludgeoned him to death with a metal statuette.
Then she said:"PRETENDING TO BE BRAVE, DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK". A quote that thousands of expat wives have since had tattooed  on their chest, adopting it as their official motto (I am making this up, of course).

Anyway, when I first heard about the Milkshake Murder, I am sorry to say that I did feel a kind of sisterhood with the murderer. I remember distinctively that I thought of what Chris Rock had said while commenting OJ Simpson's murder case, once it was made public that the victim had supposedly been using his sports car to live la vida loca with her new lover. Chris Rock said, and I couldn't have said it better myself:

'I am not saying he should have done it, but I understand.'

Cambridge and random socks -- Cambridge e calze sparse

I've got so many things on my mind that I think my brain will explode.

My son is 16 and he attends a school where it seems everybody has their future already figured out: after high school, Cambridge. My son believes that the end of school is still several lightyears away for him. In any case, he has already decided that he will do a gap year, take his bile and leave his phone at home.

He is actually quite a bright student, and according to his counsellor he is also mature, adventurous and authentic. To which I immediately had to repeat my child's name, certain as I was that a mix-up had occurred.

For a long time I have known this to be true: kids save their worse side for parents. It is part of their natural tendency to do the opposite of what they feel is expected from them. This tendency is extremely acute during adolescence, I have no pedagogical training to back up this statement, but I can see the condition in which he keeps his room.
(You will agree unless of course your child is one of these perfectly tidy smart asses who then end up in Cambridge).
It's all normal, it's the kids' struggle to get away from our influence and become adults, cruel as it can seem, it is a natural process.

But perhaps it's not all casual,  this chaos in which he lives. I should ask Stephen Hawking, who also happens to be a Cambridge graduate: the key lays perhaps in knowing how to read the signs by carefully observing the scattered dirty socks left on the bedroom floor, as if they were constellations.

-------------------------------------------
