of parenting Mork -- sulla mamma di Mork

I find it so exciting to see my kids develop their own political ideas, and how could they not? The news are in their face ALL THE time, they carry them in their pockets to school, sometimes they check their phones even before breakfast, and so there we are, coffee, cereal, Nutella and the Barcelona attack

We were in Barcelona in April and I was a bit paranoid. The Ramblas were extremely crowded. We avoided walking down the center, as I had noticed with some apprehension that, although there was an imposing police presence at the adjacent Plaza Cataluña, no physical barrier had been installed at the entrance of the Ramblas.

One should not live in fear, but I believe in the superior power of common sense, and on the Ramblas I felt like we were all just walking bowling-pins and wondered how many points our lives were worth.

I love discussing politics with my kids and hearing them out. They are so authentic in the fresh way they look at things. They have this alien outlook, still shred of prejudices.

I never thought that being a mom would bring me back so often to the episodes of Mork & Mindy I watched when I was little. Especially to the part at the end of each episode in which Mork contacts his superior, Orson, to brief him on what he has learned about earth.

I am Orson, and my kids are Morks. I am fittingly writing from Ork today, where humor is not permitted (did you know that this was the reason why Mork was sent away?), 'cos I can't shake that bowling-pin feeling.
Then tomorrow I too will get in my space-egg, come down to earth and  be funny again.

---------------------------
